  1. Great battery longevity, well built device

Posted by hana yopa on 9th Jan 2024

After FLIR branded cameras failed me over and over for quality assurance issues (batteries would within a couple years after draining themselves while the device was powered off in a drawer) and the company failed to make it right, I went looking for alternatives that put more money into their products than their marketing. I think I found it with Klein Tools.

This camera can sit in a drawer for 6 months without losing charge on the battery, which means the battery health stays good without me needing to babysit it, and it means the device is ready to be put to work when I need it. As for the functionality and accuracy, it all seems fine to me. The refresh rate is tolerable, the picture quality is sufficient for what I'm doing, and the temperatures it reports align with an IR thermometer.

  2. It's okay for what you pay for it.

Thermal imagery isn't cheap technology. I forgot how much I bought this for last year, I think $300? Anything thermal that's decent starts at $1,500, so keep that in mind. The resolution is pretty low, it is very laggy, and pauses to recalibrate frequently. However it is accurate, and works perfectly fine for diagnosing electrical and mechanical problems. You get what you pay for.
